BIO

Veronica Martinez is a artist and illustrator based in Chicago. Her work has been exhibited in Chicago, Italy, and Mexico through the art collective Pintoras Mexicanas. Recently, her work has been featured in Cicero Independiente, Injustice Watch, and has been a guest on The Latinx Identity Project Podcast. You can see her murals across the South Side of Chicago in support of the movement for Black lives.

Inspired by the work of artists such as Cindy Sherman, Frida Kahlo, and Kerry James Marshall, Veronica Martinez uses portraiture as a means to celebrate difference and it’s many entanglements with class, taste, nostalgia, and history. Through the loud and bright tropes of celebration her portraiture aims to highlight narratives and identities made invisible.
